My favorite coupons this week are for buying the GE Energy Smart bulbs at Target (update - please be aware that these bulbs contain mercury and require careful handling and proper disposal). I visited The Centsible Sawyer for the Target deals and learned that I can use a $2 Target coupon and a $1 printable manufacturer's coupon to save $3 on each bulb. That makes this 60W bulb priced at $3.59 only cost me 59 cents after coupons! And it has the "Energy Star" so my Texas readers can buy it this weekend to get it tax-free.

I went to target for the light bulbs, but the one that was supposed to be $3.50, was $5.50. Still a good deal I guess, but I didn't get it because I know the price can be better. Has anyone else seen a price difference?
As a loyal reader of your blog, I just wanted to pass a note along to your readers. These GE bulbs, and other compact fluorescent bulbs (CFLs) like them contain mercury and need to be disposed of properly. Even though they last longer, and pose no risk during their usage, please be aware when broken and when disposed of improperly, they can be toxic. Oh no- do you know that these bulbs have mercury in them and if they get broken then you may have mercury in your house. Go to energystar.gov to read about the cleanup for these. I have heard that there are shatterproof ones you can buy now, but I would never put these in my house especially with kids who may break them accidentally. Denise
Quick question re: the Walgreens coupon. Like at CVS can you hand over the $5/$20 coupon first, then the in-store coupons they have in their weekly ad, then any printables or other coupons you may have? I'm hoping to stock up on Wet Ones tomorrow so I was just curious. Thanks!
Yes, Erin - they should take your $5 off $20 coupon first so that you meet the $20 purchase requirement before any in-store or manufacturer's coupons on specific items. If your cashier says no, ask to speak to the manager. If the manager says no, shop at a different Walgreens if you have that option. Each store handles coupons a little differently.

The Targets in Michigan have those lightbulbs for $5.49 too. So the deal isn't the same for everyone. There's a little while before the coupons expire so I'm going to wait and see if they go on sale first.
I went to Walgreen's on Friday with my $5/$20 purchase. The cashier took the $5 off first and then the rest of my coupons. There were many issues with my coupons and a long line, so I didn't question my total oop (knew it was much higher than it should have been). I looked at my receipt once I got out to the car and the $5 off coupon was voided once I went under $20. :(
That is so strange, Linda! I've never heard of that happening before. The only little trick I know about using coupons at Walgreens is that the number of coupons you have can not exceed the number of items you have (no matter what type of coupons you have). I had a very frustrating experience trying to get a Register Reward that involved going back to my Walgreens not once, but twice to get it straightened out. After that I just don't shop at Walgreens very often. I did not go on Friday so can't relate what my coupon experience was like with the $5 off $20.

I decided to sign up for the ecoupons at Krogers, and have a great story to tell! I loaded a $1.50 coupon to my shopper card for Whisk detergent. I had clipped a coupon from the Sunday paper for $1.50 off Whisk detergent. I wasn't really sure if Krogers would accept the coupon I had in my hand, since I already had the ecoupon loaded. Whisk was on sale this week for $3.49, and they took both coupons, so I paid $0.49 for a bottle of Whisk. Also, I loaded the ecoupon for Buy 1 Get 1 Free for Herbal Essences. I also had two $1 off coupons for Herbal Essences. So not only did I save $1on one bottle, I got one free, and they took an extra $1 off my bill, since I had 2 coupons.
The GE bulbs are on sale at Target this week for $3.39 (at least in central Ohio), so you should be able to stock up for 39 cents each if you have manufacturer coupons. I ordered a bunch off eBay over the weekend, so I'm hoping the come by Saturday!

At the Target in Omaha, the cash register limited the store coupon on the light bulbs to one per customer. (As the clerk punched in the coupon # for the 2nd store coupon, the register screen read Limit One Offer Per Customer.) So I got one bulb for $0.59 & the other for $2.59.
We got 8 energy bulb packs FREE by signing with our state's energy section of the government website. They took about 8 weeks to come in the mail.
